Tutoring program - We teach a structured literacy, which is an Orton-Gillingham Approach
There are many environments in which children learn; while some children learn well in a classroom environment, some students may need a multisensory approach to be engaged in the learning process. The Orton-Gillingham approach is provided using a one-to-one technique that supports each lesson specifically to meet individual needs. This is where Orton-Gillingham succeeds. Students are taught to read, spell, and write using all four learning channels: auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic.
Dyslexia
Orton-Gillingham's instruction meets the recommendations of the International Dyslexia Association as an effective reading approach for students with language-based learning difficulties.
It is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities.
These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede the growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.
